With significant attention in the media about the 2019 novel (new) Coronavirus, Relievus wants to share some important information about the virus and how to protect yourself and others. The most accurate and up-to-date information can be found at the following websites:

What is Coronavirus?
The coronavirus is a novel (new) coronavirus that was first detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China, which has now been detected in 37 locations internationally, including cases in the United States. The virus has been named “SARS-CoV-2” and the disease it causes has been named “coronavirus disease 2019” (abbreviated “COVID-19”).
CDC believes at this time that symptoms of COVID-19 may appear in as few as 2 days or as long as 14 days after exposure. This is based on what has been seen previously as the incubation period of MERS-CoV viruses
How it spreads
· Person-to-person spread
o The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person.
o Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet)
o Via respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
o These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.
· Spread from contact with infected surfaces or objects
o It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.
· When does spread happen?
o People are thought to be most contagious when they are most symptomatic (the sickest).
o Some spread might be possible before people show symptoms; there have been reports of this with this new coronavirus, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.

Lastly, Relievus wants you to know that the CDC is aggressively responding to the global outbreak of COVID-19 and preparing for the potential of community spread in the U.S.
Below are current measures to help stop the spread of the coronavirus (taken from the world health organization website)
Basic protective measures against the new coronavirus
COVID-19 is still affecting mostly people in China with some outbreaks in other countries. Most people who become infected experience mild illness and recover, but it can be more severe for others. Take care of your health and protect others by doing the following:
· Wash your hands frequently
Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water.
Why? Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands.
· Maintain social distancing
Maintain at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.
Why? When someone coughs or sneezes they spray small liquid droplets from their nose or mouth which may contain virus. If you are too close, you can breathe in the droplets, including the COVID-19 virus if the person coughing has the disease.
· Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth
Why? Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and can make you sick.
· Practice respiratory hygiene
Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately.
Why? Droplets spread virus. By following good respiratory hygiene you protect the people around you from viruses such as cold, flu and COVID-19.
· If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early
Stay home if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention and call in advance. Follow the directions of your local health authority.
Why? National and local authorities will have the most up to date information on the situation in your area. Calling in advance will allow your health care provider to quickly direct you to the right health facility. This will also protect you and help prevent spread of viruses and other infections.
